The target drive fails to boot. What may cause this?

Answer:

This may indicate that the PC cannot read the drive’s master boot or DOS boot record.  Check the following:

a.      Verify that the HDD’s power and data cable are properly connected to the PC.

b.      Verify that the PC’s BIOS can detect the HDD.

c.      Verify that the drive’s Master/Slave jumper block is properly configured.

d.      Verify that the PC’s SETUP is properly configured for the HDD installed.

e.      Verify that no corrupted files exist on the source drive.

f.        The symptom can be caused by a mismatch between the PC’s BIOS HDD Geometry Translation setting and the Image MASSter HDD Geometry Translation setting.  If the PC’s setting is set to LARGE translation and the target drive is copied using LBA translation, the target drive may fail to boot.   In this case the target drive would need to be re-copied using the unit’s LBA translation method or the PC’s BIOS would need to be changed to use the LBA translation method.  The unit’s default HDD Geometry Translation setting is AUTO, instructing the copy process to configure the target drive using the same translation method that exists on the source drive.

g.      Verify that the % of Disk copy mode is not being used when copying to dissimilar drives.

  1. When turning on the unit, no activity occurs after displaying the message “Initializing Image MASSter, please wait”.

  2. The Image MASSter displays the error message “Internal Settings are Invalid” or “Stored Configuration Data is Corrupted”.

  3. After starting a copy operation, the Image MASSter responds with one of the following error messages: “Drive failed to respond to reset” “Failed to Detect Drives” “Failed to Initialize Drives”

  4. Which Notebook 2 ½” HDDs are supported by the Image MASSter?

  5. Can the Image MASSter copy to drives having different capacities.

  6. How does the unit partition the target HDD when the master drive contains multiple partitions and the target drive is larger than the master drive?

  7. Can the Image MASSter be used to copy non-FAT operating systems such as UNIX, and OS/2 (HPFS).

  8. Do target drives have to be partitioned and formatted prior to copying?

  9. The target drive fails to boot. What may cause this?

  10. What do the “Error Register Codes” indicate.
